Update 2nd November

Update, Targets and Ambitions

A lot has happened since my previous posting and so this is a general update. I still owe a posting about the Montgomery Triathlon but I hope to have completed that by the weekend.

Target Achieved.

At the beginning of the year I set a Strava target of 1500 miles on the bike – either virtually or on the road. Secretly I hoped to go further than this and achieve 2021 miles. I therefore decided that I would try and achieve the 1500 miles before my planned trip to Scotland. As S had an injury I had to delay my trip so on Sunday 10th October I did a 25 mile ride to achieve the 1500 miles. You can see the ride here and thank you to all those who gave kudos.

Disappointment in many ways

I did do the trip to Scotland but although there were some very good bits there was an overall sense of disappointment to the trip.

The good bits were seeing my aunt again after 18 months, seeing my cousin A after nearly 40 years and having a good time with her and bits of the cousin’s reunion with H, A, B, L and L. I also enjoyed a memorable afternoon in the Black Isle Bar. I realise that I was a bit loud at the re-union but nothing extreme.

The downside of the week was the attitude and behaviour of my other cousin N who took it upon himself first of all to decide he did not want to spend time with me,then ignore me for a whole day while I was trying to contact him, and then blanking me when I met him on the last morning. Apparently, my behaviour was “not good, to say the least”. I remain baffled about the context but then I can only put it down to experience. Sad really but as Billy Connolly asserts – the secret to happiness is not giving a **** about what others think. Thank you Billy.

I did not achieve my yearly target of getting up Cairngorm due to weather and N’s behaviour but I did have a good walk up to the Green Lochan before setting off for home and enjoyed views of the first snow of the year.

Resolve

I have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks coming to terms with my virtual retirement and working out how to fill my time. Part of the process is decluttering and getting rid of old stuff that fills the garage loft. As part of this I have now decided that part of my legacy will be this website. I intend to turn it into an account of one part of my life and add memories to it as time allows. As part of this I shall compose a timeline of years from when I took up exercise until the present day. I shall add photos, event details and a range of statistics as I work on them.

A selfish reason is that it will be more interesting than pictures of a whole series of trains and collecting used rail tickets.

Ongoing

With the aim of 2021 miles in mind, I continue to spend time on Fulgaz on the Tacx trainer in the garage. I leave the door open and over the last few weeks I have been joined by a new training partner. You can find details of the sessions on Strava (if you are that bored) but here is a little video to introduce Bobby!

Still spinning and plodding (and pecking??)
