As I now have more time and am no longer able to run on my new hip I have decided to go back to playing golf.
I played a few times at Meole Brace 12 hole course in Shrewsbury before making two decisions. The first was to have new grips to my father’s old clubs. I have a full set of these clubs – Lynx Predator woods and irons that date from the late 1970’s. I also have a few odd clubs that I have acquired from Ebay (putter and a hybrid) and a driver from brother in law Pete. Comparing this club with the Lynx driver shows how clubs have evolved over the years.
My second decision was to join a club. I had played at the most local course Arscott a few years ago and this year played at the Shrewsbury course at Condover with my friend Angus. Having investigated the costs I opted for Arscott – I feel that it is a more scenic course and the drive there is much easier. I also went to play a test round and while waiting to play the first hole (the 10th – it was a Wednesday) another golfer (Roger) offered to join me. We played nine holes and had a really good chat. My golf was OK including a par on the 16th hole. After Roger finished, I went on to play the first nine and after a par on the 1st hole was joined by another golfer who offered me some very good advice as we played. These encounters convinced me that this was a friendly club and so I decided to join. I have since played with Roger on several occasions with varied outcomes!!
What follows are accounts of some of my exploits including memorable moments. I have also included my “eclectic” score with my best score on each hole. I shall also include my average score for each hole together some thoughts. I shall also add the total for each round. I am actually setting up this page late in November and will have fewer memories of the early rounds.
Keep Swinging
