Five years on from London – Month late

During an otherwise dull day doing the Hope Newsletter I went on Twitter to catch up on the latest information on the liar that calls himself Prime Minister. There I found a tweet from Claire who had been one of the Best Beginnings running team in the 2017 London Marathon.

What happened to the Embankment?

This made me focus on both memories and decide that despite age and various replacement bits I really ought to get back into a fitness regime, even if only to fill time now that I am working so little.

I had put off doing much today as it was cold and cloudy so this spurred me on to do something. I resubscribed to Training Peaks and found a 13 week century ride training plan which I am to complete before the end of July. So that is a long-term target.

In the meantime I am taking part in a Super Sprint triathlon at Weston Park in two weeks time. I haven’s swum since the Snowman at the end of last July and although the bike ride should not be a problem I need to do some walking. We had to go to Minsterley to put up some posters so I decided to do a walk/jog down.

This went well and although I don’t think I have my intervals app on my watch now i worked out that if I walked 5 telegraph poles and then jogged the next one I should be able to complete the walk. I did 4 miles in just under 57 minutes and actually enjoyed it. This may have been because it is almost all downhill.

I have not cycled this week – just been lazy and so have a 40 mile ride to do tomorrow morning so I shall update my record following that. At the moment I am slightly behind my schedule for the year having completed just over 500 miles (real and virtual) but as I get into the training programme on TP I should get ahead of myself.

I had planned to do the Dragon Ride this year (postponed from 2020 / 2021) but it is the day after the big Jubilee event in the village so I shall give it a miss. But I am planning to cycle to the coast at Aberdovey before the end of June so that is another target.

In addition I am planning to undertake a kayak challenge in August when I intend to kayak from the Barbican in Plymouth to Bere Ferrers to raise funds for MND in the name of Rob Furneaux, a long-time friend and my best man who died of this cruel disease last December. More about that later but I have started working on my upper body fitness to build up conditioning for that challenge.

More tomorrow morning.

Well tomorrow morning I did I bike ride – 44-5 miles – fairly flat but it was a bit windy. You can find details of the ride here.

But the best part of the day was the good wishes from the other 2017 Best Beginnings marathon runners Jon and John. They are running the New York marathon this year in aid of …. and please support them if you can.

I had meant to update immediately after that ride but didn’t. However I shall upload it now – 13th May and then provide another update on the Weston Park triathlon. I also now have an Instagram page to provide some pics of the beautiful part of the world where I live.

So keeping plodding.
